The median home value comes from a five-year Census survey in which owners estimate their own home's value. It is not a recent sale price.[1] The Village's 2002 Comprehensive Plan dates its incorporation to 1880.[3] Mokena's water comes from the Chicago Water Department, which draws on Lake Michigan, with the Village's own wells kept as a backup, and the Village's 2025 water report says its inventory shows zero lead service lines.[4] From July 1, 2026, Village water and sewer together cost $14.85 per 1,000 gallons.[5] The Village lists no utility taxes,[6] and the Illinois Department of Revenue lists a combined 8% sales tax on general merchandise in Mokena beginning July 1, 2026, up from 7.5%.[7] The Village says all of Mokena's parks are managed by the Mokena Community Park District, whose main campus is on LaPorte Road.[8]
Mokena has two Metra stations, both on the Rock Island line, which the Village says runs to Chicago's LaSalle Street Station.[9][10][11] Mokena is not on Amtrak's list of its 30 Illinois stops.[12] The Village says its public commuter lots cost $2.00 a day and are free on weekends and Village holidays.[13]
Station | Metra line | Parking |
|---|---|---|
Mokena station | Rock Island[9] | 544 spaces in 7 lots, 362 of them daily[9] |
Hickory Creek station | Rock Island[10] | 1,106 daily spaces in one lot[10] |
The Village lists a full Interstate 80 interchange at U.S. Route 45 (LaGrange Road).[6] Access Will County Dial-a-Ride gives curb-to-curb rides to senior and disabled residents of Will County, booked with Pace at (800) 244-4410, Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.[14] No Pace bus route lists Mokena among the places it stops.[15]
Mokena School District 159 says it serves about 12 square miles of Mokena with three schools.[16] The Village also lists Frankfort District 157C, New Lenox District 122 and Summit Hill District 161, and Lincoln-Way District 210 for high school.[17] Lincoln-Way says a student's high school is set by the grade school district where the student lives.[18] A home's school districts go by its exact address, so check that address with the districts before counting on a school.
