Parks the Channahon Park District operates, the Village says[3]

The median home value comes from a five-year Census survey in which owners estimate their own home's value. It is not a recent sale price.[1] The Village says Channahon was incorporated in 1961,[4] and that its name comes from a Potawatomi word meaning "meeting of the waters," for the point where the Des Plaines, DuPage and Kankakee rivers come together to form the Illinois River.[3] Channahon State Park, established in 1932, is the official trailhead of the Illinois & Michigan Canal State Trail and home to historic Locks 6 and 7; the Forgotten Warrior Memorial in the photo at the top of this page is inside it.[3] The Village expects Lake Michigan water to arrive in 2030 and says homes on existing wells will stay on wells.[5]

What the documents say

License plate reader camera on McEvilly Road

Agreements

On October 5, 2026, the Village Board approved a three-year agreement with Will County that lets one existing automated license plate reader camera stay in place along eastbound McEvilly Road, according to the Village's meeting recap, which is not the official minutes.[17][18] At the same meeting, the Police Department showed its new Flock Transparency Portal, where the public can see the cameras in use, retention policies, searches and data sharing.[17] The Will County Public Works and Transportation Committee's agenda for November 4, 2026 lists the County's resolution to authorize the agreement.[30] The copy of the agreement in the committee's packet is signed by the Village, dated October 5, 2026, and gives a term of three years upon passage and approval by the Will County Board.[31]

Route 6 Phase I engineering study

Roads

Answering a resident's question about traffic on Route 6 at the October 5, 2026 Village Board meeting, the Village said IDOT is completing a Phase I engineering study and design for Route 6 from the former Caterpillar facility in Joliet to Route 47 in Morris. The recap gives no cost or schedule.[17]

Heritage Crossing Field House HVAC

Repairs

The Park District's September 28, 2026 board agenda included a recommendation to hire the low bidder, Omega Plumbing, Heating & Cooling, to replace 3 HVAC units at Heritage Crossing Field House for $59,000. The Park District has not posted minutes showing the vote.[20] It describes the field house, at 24935 W. Sioux Drive, as a cooperative venture with Channahon School District 17.[21]

RL Community Park parking lots

Parks

The same agenda included a recommendation to hire Wolf's Sealcoating to sealcoat the parking lots at RL Community Park for $26,995. No minutes show the vote yet.[20]

Heritage Crossing lower roof

Repairs

The minutes of School District 17's September 28, 2026 board meeting say Park District leaders contacted the district in early September about replacing the lower roof at Heritage Crossing because of constant leaks. The total cost of the project is $73,963. The Park District asked the district to contribute because the district's HVAC system is in that area. The minutes say that part of the roof is entirely on the Park District's parcel and that the condo agreement and the 2003 intergovernmental agreement have no provisions on roof repairs or replacement. The Board directed administration to tell the Park District that District 17 is not willing to contribute.[27] The district's agenda for that meeting listed "Fieldhouse HVAC/Lower Roof Section Park District Emergency Replacement" under the business office report.[19]

Pioneer Path 1923 roof

Repairs

On September 28, 2026, the School District 17 board directed administration to replace the entire 1923 section of the Pioneer Path roof in summer 2027, according to the minutes. The minutes say roofing contractors and the insurance adjuster or carrier did not recommend waiting past that summer.[27] The August 31, 2026 minutes say insurance will cover only the damaged section and that the Roof Asset Management Plan projected the cost at $296,500.[29] The district's October 26, 2026 agenda listed a vote on the project authorization and an update on Pioneer Path roof and classroom storm damage. The agenda does not show the vote, and no minutes of that meeting are posted.[28]

Accessible Communities Plan

Sidewalks

On September 21, 2026, consultants from Oates and Associates, working for CMAP, presented the Village's Accessible Communities Plan to the Committee of the Whole. They put the work found in the Village's self-evaluation at $12.4 million to $12.5 million to make the Village compliant, including five miles of major barriers to access at $323,000 per mile. In the discussion the plan was called a planning document for future spending and a federal legal requirement that now also counts in the ranking of applications for surface transportation program money. The minutes show no vote.[22] The Village Board's October 19, 2026 agenda included approval of announcing the opening of a 30-day comment period for the plan. The Village has not posted minutes or a meeting recap showing the vote.[26]

Summit MBE LLC license amendment

State license

At the September 21, 2026 Committee of the Whole meeting, the Village shared a state notice that Summit MBE LLC had applied to amend its radioactive material license, for industrial use, at 25915 South Frontage Road, by ExxonMobil south of the river. The notice came from IEMA, the Office of Homeland Security, which issues the license if the company meets its rules.[22] The Village says the site is not in the Village of Channahon, but nearby.[23]
